Wait on the Lord

“I waited patiently for the LORD;
he inclined to me and heard my cry.

He drew me up from the pit of destruction,
out of the miry bog,
and set my feet upon a rock,
making my steps secure.

He put a new song in my mouth,
a song of praise to our God.
Many will see and fear,
and put their trust in the LORD.”
(Psalm 40:1-4)

God always hears our prayers when we pray through faith in Christ.

Sometimes He answers “yes.”

Sometimes He answers “no.”

Sometimes we don’t get an answer. It’s in those times that we must wait on the Lord as the Psalmist writes. We wait on the Lord by trusting that He has heard our cry and is working to bless us. Not necessarily with material blessing, but with spiritual blessings. Often He is working to strengthen our faith, build our character, and teach us patience.

He hears our cry and in the perfect timing will pull us up out of the pit we feel like we are stuck and drowning in. He will set our feet on a rock and make our steps secure. He knows what we truly need and always provides for our needs according to His riches and glory in Christ Jesus.

It’s in these times of rescue that we praise Him all the more. We tell of the great work God has done in our lives so that others will see and fear and put their trust in the Lord also.

It’s often hard to wait on the Lord isn’t it? We want answers and we want them now. When the answers don’t come quickly, be encouraged and know that the Lord hears your cry for help and is working. He is working for your good and will provide for all your needs as you faithfully trust in Him and wait.
