Fear God and Keep His Commandments

“The end of the matter; all has been heard. Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the whole duty of man. For God will bring every deed into judgment, with every secret thing, whether good or evil.” (‭Ecclesiastes‬ ‭12‬:‭13-14‬ ESV)

King Solomon, the most wise and wealthy man who ever lived, wrote these words near the end of his life.

Earlier in the book of Ecclesiastes he details how the various things of this world that bring us pleasure don’t give us lasting satisfaction to quench the the hunger and thirst in our souls for God. Money, sex, relationships, material possessions, none of these things give us lasting satisfaction in our souls.

So after experiencing all these things, he closes the book by teaching us to fear God and keep His commandments. And we know from our Lord Jesus that to love God and love others is how you fully keep God’s commandments.

So if you want to satisfy the hunger and thirst in your soul, if you want to fill that God sized hole in your heart, love the Lord with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength today. And love your neighbor as yourself. This is how you keep His commandments.
